Teaching AI to Kids: A New Chapter at Liberty International School

Teaching AI to Kids - Liberty International School Phnom Penh

At Liberty International School (LIS) in Phnom Penh, we are proud to launch a bold new initiative: AI Literacy for Kids. In a world that’s changing faster than ever, AI (Artificial Intelligence) is no longer science fiction—it’s a tool our children are already encountering in daily life. From smart speakers to search engines, AI is everywhere. That’s why we’re ensuring our students are not just users of technology but confident, ethical, and creative AI collaborators.

Why AI Literacy Matters Now

Future jobs—from medicine to marketing—will require the ability to work alongside intelligent systems. But AI isn’t about robots taking over. It’s about human creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication—skills that Liberty has always prioritized. Our new AI for Kids program is designed to help children aged 10–13 understand what AI is, how it works, and how to use it as a tool for research, storytelling, presentation, and problem-solving.

AI is a Creative Tool

At LIS, we teach students that AI doesn’t think for them—it responds to their guidance. When children learn how to write good prompts, train AI through examples, and use it ethically, they become leaders, not followers, in a digital world.

Students will:
•    Use AI to brainstorm ideas and build presentations
•    Create visuals, videos, and posters with AI tools
•    Learn to question sources and verify information
•    Practice ethical thinking and digital responsibility

Our six-module course includes exciting hands-on lessons and ends with a capstone project where each student showcases their AI-powered creation.

AI and Holistic Education

Teaching AI is part of our larger vision of holistic, future-ready education. At Liberty, we know that school and home must work together. That’s why we encourage families to explore AI with their children, ask open-ended questions about how it works, and even co-create simple projects at home. Parents can help by:
•    Discussing how AI tools are used in daily life (e.g., smart assistants, YouTube recommendations)
•    Creating fun projects like AI-generated art or short stories
•    Talking about ethics: “Is it okay to use AI to do your homework?”

Preparing Kids for a Changing World

This new program at Liberty is more than just a tech class—it’s a mindset shift. We are preparing students to think critically, act ethically, and use AI to enhance their learning and creativity. With our dedicated teachers and flexible, no-coding-needed curriculum, your child won’t just keep up with the future—they’ll help shape it.
